The project began with these eight individuals “airing out” these quilts by hanging them up outside their homes. These quilts use colors, textures, and patterns woven together to create intricate scenes that help share the stories of individuals who have lived in neighborhoods that are either distinct, in transition, enduring or on the edge of abandonment. On August 6, the Michigan Science Center will be partnering with the Live Coal Gallery as we host the premier of their film, Aired Out Quilts! Aired Out Quilts is a project that tells the oral histories of eight residents of the Greater Detroit area.
